One of the most popular recipes for meatloaf on Amish365 is our "Marriage Meatloaf" recipe.  You can read the story behind it and get the recipe for it here.

    "Marriage Meatloaf"...

There is a "Skillet Meatloaf " recipe that is popular among the Amish.  My mother made it recently, but she didn't do it in a skillet. I think it would have been really cool to do it in a skillet and the instructions for it are below, but the pictures are of my Mom's version which we'll call  AMISH SKILLET-WITHOUT-THE-SKILLET MEATLOAF, here is the recipe and some photos!

Mix up your ground beef and veggies...

After following the recipe, pop it in the oven....

If this meatloaf looks a little small, it is....my parents cut the recipe in half since it's just the two of them...also Mom used green instead of red peppers...

    • 2 pounds lean ground sirloin (preferably 90% lean)
    1. ½ cup barbecue sauce

    ½ cup dry bread crumbs

    2 large beaten eggs

    ¼ cup diced onion

    ¼ cup diced green pepper

    1 teaspoon salt

    Additional barbecue sauce

    2 tablespoons brown sugar

    1. Preheat the oven to 325 degrees.
    2. In a large bowl, combine the ground sirloin, barbecue sauce, bread crumbs, eggs, onion, pepper and salt. Mix well.
    3. Spray an 8" cast iron skillet with cooking spray.
    4. Press the beef mixture into the prepared skillet.
    5. Using the barbecue sauce, make "spokes" on the top of the meat.
    6. Sprinkle brown sugar over the top of the meat.
    7. Bake for 50 minutes or until it is cooked through (160 degrees internal temperature).
    Serve warm.
This next meatloaf recipe is a classic dutch meatloaf with roots deep in Pennsylvania Dutch country.
Below are some more traditional meatloaf recipes found in Amish country.  Not sure what the purpose of ground hot dogs is in a meatloaf, wondering if maybe that was a cheap way to stretch limited supplies of ground beef?
