🫐 Why These Are the Ultimate Blueberry Muffins
Blueberries are a year-round favorite when they are plentiful in the supermarket. And, for the Amish who grow them, they are a summer favorite. Amish homemakers are experts at putting them to use in cakes, breads, muffins, jellies, and jams.
These blueberry crumble muffins are a really popular way to enjoy blueberries. Blueberry muffin recipes are a dime a dozen, but this is about the best blueberry muffin recipe I have sampled!
What makes these special? You might think a blueberry muffin is a blueberry muffin, not much variation. But these are scratch-made bursting with blueberry beauties. When I was a kid, my exposure to blueberry muffins came through Duncan Hines and those small tins of mushy blueberries that came in the box. They probably still do. This recipe, though, will make you want to ditch the boxed kind for good.
🚜 The Amish and Blueberries: A Perfect Partnership
I know of some Amish-owned u-pick blueberry patches. And among the Amish in Maine, blueberries are a mainstay. Blueberries grow very well in Maine's temperate climate and rocky soil.
Want to pick your own? There are not a ton of Amish u-pick blueberry options out there, but one farm that does do pick-your-own-blueberries is Pleasantview Produce, 7201 Tucker Rd, Centerburg, OH 43011. This is a certified organic Amish farm that grows strawberries, raspberries, and blueberries with u-pick patches. They don't have a phone, so visit during business hours.
📋 Step-by-Step: Perfect Amish Blueberry Crumble Muffins
These are easy muffins to make, with the crumb topping being my favorite part!

The Secret to Success: The wet ingredients should be mixed together until you get a creamy batter. This blueberry muffin recipe is easy to make, the muffin batter is easy to work with, the texture being creamy and light. Make sure you use a large bowl so that you have limited splatter, especially if using an electric mixer.
🍇 Fresh vs. Frozen Blueberries
You can use fresh blueberries or frozen blueberries, either will work. We used nice, plump fresh blueberries. And while this is a blueberry muffin recipe, you can use this recipe for other berries, like raspberries or blackberries.
✨ Crumble Topping Tips
The crumble topping only has three ingredients as listed, but you could add some brown sugar or a teaspoon of cinnamon to it for nice additional flavor.
For the crumble topping, you can use butter or margarine. But either way, you get a nice buttery streusel topping. Some people like to add some lemon zest to the batter of the muffin or even to the crumble topping, but that is not my favorite.

I make a similar recipe but instead of making individual muffins (lots more work!) I just put the whole bowl of batter into a cake pan and monitor the bake time. I like mine with a mixture of organic berries I buy at the local healthfood store. It's blueberries, blackberries and strawberries. I guess if I want strawberries I'll have to add them!
