One of my favorite activities when visiting Amish communities is simply making "discoveries." I love finding those hidden treasures: Amish home-based businesses. Sometimes I'll discover a variety store, other items a produce stand, a bulk food store, or - the absolutely gold of Amish country - a bakery! And I stumbled upon an amazing little Amish bakery easy of Quincy, Michigan.
I'll offer up some observations honed from years of visiting such places.

First of all, I was intrigued by the name. It's unusual (but smart marketing!) for an Amish business to use Amish in the name. Often you'll find non-descript names like "Country Breezes Bakery" or "Shady Oak Bakery." But, no, this one goes strait to the point: Amish Country Bakery. I like it.
The bakery is open everyday except Sunday and it is a true Amish bakery. It's located in a tiny outbuilding across the street from the owner's house.

The "retail" section of the bakery is tiny, just one corner of the front room. But what it makes up for in size it delivers in selection: loaves of bread, pies, cookies, homemade noodles, local syrup, homemade jams, and on and on. I wanted to try everything! Which brings me to -
PRO TIP: Bring cash. Lots of cash. They don't accept credit cards. Closest ATM is 15 minutes away in Quincy.

The absolute star of this bakery are their homemade fried pies which I saw them making by hand in the back. Just amazing selection of flavors and then doused in a GENEROUS glaze. So many fried pies lack that all-important glaze, but these had a full on white coating of glaze. There were chocolate, strawberry-rhubarb, lemon, cherry, apple, strawberry, blueberry, and peach!
So, yes, I highly recommend this bakery. It may not be the biggest, but it's definitely one of the most authentic you'll find!
