Writing fiction is tricky business, but I definitely got caught up in the characters as I wrote this book some five years ago.  I'm excited to now put these characters out for your enjoyment (I hope). I remember at the time really not wanting to finish the book because I feel like I intensely "got to know" each character and ultimately didn't want to say goodbye.  But I did and the book just sat...for years.....but now I am excited to finally be able to put it out there...and I know fiction is a fickle beast, by its very nature, some of you will love it, some of you won't.  That's fiction.

The book's point of view shifts between the main male protagonist and the main female protagonist with a few other voices thrown in.  It's a literary device that felt a little clumsy at first, but I think it ultimately worked.  Keep in mind, this was written back in 2011 neat the height of the national housing meltdown and recession, which sort of figured into the plot of the book.  But now that era, thankfully, seems distantly in the rearview mirror.

The book is set in Berne, Indiana and I'll talk more tomorrow about some of the real places mentioned and why I picked there as a setting.

The main character, Abraham, is a flawed, but ultimately good, man, who makes some bad choices.  But he works through them and starts to travel down the road to redemption.  In that sense, this book reflects the sunny view of the author (me) that most people want to "get it right."   It may take some longer than others but, in the end, we all do the best we can with what we have and things have a way of sorting themselves out accordingly.  So if you've never made mistakes or bad choices in your life, this book might not be for you.
