    Amish Angel Food Cookies

    Angel food cake is a popular confection among the Amish, but what about a cookie version of the cake?  Can't go wrong there!  Try this neat recipe that was sent to me by an Amish woman in Geauga County, Ohio.  Sounds yummy!

    Amish Angel Food Cookies

    Ingredients
    • 1 cup shortening
    • ½ cup granulated sugar
    • ¼ teaspoon salt
    • 1 teaspoon baking soda
    • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
    • ½ cup brown sugar
    • 1 egg
    • 2 cups all-purpose flour
    • 1 teaspoon cream of tartar
    • 1 cup coconut
    Instructions
    1. Mix shortening and sugar until creamy; add egg.
    2. Sift all dry ingredients together.
    3. Add to shortening mixture.
    4. Roll dough into small balls and dip into water, then into brown sugar.
    5. Put on cookie sheet.
    6. Bake at 375 for 15 minutes.
    7. Makes 4 dozen.

      Do you roll the dough ball in the coconut or incorporate the coconut into the dough?
