Amish Beefy Bean Casserole could also be called "Three B" casserole. What are the three Bs in this casserole? Bacon, beans, and beef. These all combine to make a super one-pot meal.

One of the ingredients in this Delicious Amish Beefy Bean Casserole is pork and beans. And geez, I've run into many homemade pork and beans recipes from Amish kitchens over the years, but typically they feed a massive army. So, for this recipe, a store-bought can might be the most practical.
Three B Casserole is also a great campfire meal. There are a lot of Amish that do cook suppers over an open fire, especially during the summer. Temperatures are warm, and cooking inside just isn’t always appealing. But if you cook it outside the heat just goes off into the air, you can enjoy a nice breeze and you’re not turning the house into an oven. This type of recipe lends itself well to cooking in a cast iron pot over an open fire. The barbecue flavors in this recipe really meld well.
Beans and Bacon and Beef are also staples of the open range. Let's talk a bit about Amish settlements "on the prairie." Amish settlements for a long, long time didn't go much farther west than Iowa and Missouri, Gradually, though, the Amish expanded their presence to include communities in Kansas...but growth in the Plains has been slow...a few Amish settlements dot other parts of Kansas, but they are small. Nebraska and South Dakota both have tiny Amish populations.
Not sure why the Amish have had such slow growth in the Plains. I know the soil and weather are fickle (boom or bust), parcels of land for sale can often be huge (whereas the Amish like smaller farms) and in the Dakotas and Minnesota, the Amish would begin to compete with Hutterite colonies, which has probably kept them from settling too much there.
Oh, well, back to this wonderful recipe. Pair it with a couple of slices of homemade bread and you have yourself an amazing meal!
