Amish Grab Bag: Millie Otto, Amish Brown Betty, Cheryl McNulty, and More!

    Published: Mar 12, 2021 · Updated: Mar 12, 2021 by Kevin Williams | Leave a Comment

Okay, this is just sort of some fun stuff I wanted to share, so here goes:

MILLIE OTTO: I thought we'd check in with Illinois Amish writer Millie Otto this week. She writes about the arrival of spring in lush central Illinois along with a super recipe to use up old bread you might have. Click here for the column and recipe.

ANNA MARY: Check out Cheryl McNulty's newest painting, a contemplative photo of a young Amish girl pondering. I always love Cheryl's work! Click here to see.

AMISH BROWN BETTY RECIPE: This is a super recipe and a common one in Amish kitchens for a "Brown Betty", click here to take a look and get the recipe!

AMISH ICE-CUTTING: Check out some photographs of the Amish cutting ice in Buchanan County, Iowa. More conservative groups, like this one, will harvest ice during the winter, store it in an ice house, and it will last for a year for freezing foods and keeping other stuff cold. Click here for these photos!

DUTCHCRAFTERS PODCAST - MEET AMISH WOODWORKER JOE SCHWARTZ: This is a super podcast to listen to from our friends at Dutchcrafters. It's not often you get to really hear, literally hear, an Amish person explain their craft. Beth and Milca from Dutchcrafters interview Joe Schwartz, an Amish woodworkers in Indiana. He explains his woodworking work, but you also get snippets of his family life and his sense of humor sparklers through. Click here to listen! (and check out the other podcasts!)
