Fascinating slate of stories for you to pick from today, enjoy!
Amish Golfers???  You know, honestly, I had not given much thought to the topic of Amish and golf. If you would have asked me if Amish people ever hit the links, my answer likely would have been "no."  Yes, it is a low-tech, non-violent sport, but it can be expensive...greens fees, clubs, etc so my answer would have been that most Amish would view it as a frivolous use of time.  And, actually, my answer is probably correct, the key word being most. Because, apparently in Lancaster County, at least, some Amish DO hit the links.  Interesting article. Click here to read.
Vermont Amish:  There isn't much in this article about the Amish BUT this is the first I have heard of Amish now being in Vermont! Interesting! Apparently they have moved to the area from Pennsylvania.  Brownington, Vermont is in the far northeast part of the Green Mountain State and there are really no Amish settlements around that area for hundreds of miles.  With the exception of Maine there have been no Amish settlements elsewhere in New England, so this is a first!  Read a bit more here. Looks like I'll now have to find an excuse to drop by Vermont!:) (actually, I am kicking myself, a month or so ago I was in northern Vermont cutting over to New Hampshire...had I known....)
Amish Horse Poop:Â Â Â Amos and Dan Mast were booked into county lock-up over the weekend for refusing to pay their fines for not having their horses wearing a poop collection device. Here's the problem with this story: Â I DO believe the Amish involved have probably a legitimate religious persecution complaint. Â The town of Auburn, Kentucky appears to be crafting ordinances with the sole intent of targeting the Amish and that is a civil rights no-no. Â But this isn't education or even something more relatable like hard hats or orange triangles, this is HORSE MANURE. Â Not exactly a topic that is easy to rally the public around. Â Seems like a silly, frivolous waste of time and money on the part of Auburn, Kentucky...read more here.
FROM AN AMISH FARM TO MEDICAL SCHOOL: Â This is a rare path someone took from growing up Amish to attending medical school. Â Not the first time it has happened, but it is rare. Click here to read the full, fascinating story.
TRAFFIC TRAGEDY: Â A UPS truck plowed into an Amish buggy with tragic results: two deaths and some serious injuries. Read more here.
