We have a lot of Amish in the News today so lets get right to it. This is our last Amish in the News of 2018! (Unless you are reading this is Australia or New Zealand in which case it is the first of 2019).
MILLIE'S FRUIT PIZZA DELUXE: Nothing like deluxe-ing something up! A fruit pizza is good by itself, but throw in a box of yellow cake mix and you are all set. Click here.
AMISH AND BASKETBALL: This is a delightful story in the Indianapolis newspaper about the rabid love of high school basketball in Topeka, Indiana, the state's largest Amish community. Many of the non-Amish kids at the public high school are only a generation or two removed from the Amish, so there are a lot of cross-cultural ties. Just a fun piece to read if you have a few minutes. Click here.
SAY, WHAT? Maybe I just don't know enough about deer hunting. Okay, first, the Amish hunter was in the wrong....he was in the wrong especially with the shifty way in which he tried to evade the daily limit of Ohio's hunting season. But it isn't like deer are Tasmanian tigers, there are plenty of deer...so does this offense really merit a $28,000 fine? Holy cow. Or deer. Click here to read more.
PINECRAFT PARADE: This is a charming annual Christmas tradition in Florida's only Amish community. Click here.
12 SAUERKRAUT RECIPES FROM LANCASTER COUNTY: From a meal to a dessert recipes, here are 12 recipes steeped in Amish culinary culture. Enjoy!

Kevin, I must say that I agree with you that 28,000 is a little over the top as fines go. I agree the gentleman in question was dead wrong for the falsehoods he committed but I find it hard to believe that the deer was valued at that much. I would love to see how that came up with that figure and how it merits that amount. I know a fair enough about hunting living here in Wyoming and I know fines are pretty steep for poaching but I have never heard of such a high fine here.

Yea, $28,000 is a LOT for a deer.....
