Amish in the News: Amish Romance Novels, Amish Evictions, More Millie, and Inside an Amish Bungalow

    Published: Dec 8, 2014 · Updated: Dec 8, 2014 by Kevin Williams | Leave a Comment

It's Monday which means it's time for a little Amish in the News.  Have some interesting reads today, so set aside a few minutes and dig in!

AMISH ROMANCE NOVELS:  The only thing that sort of had me scratching my head about this article was that the newspaper acted like this was some new phenomena.   Back in 2009, the Wall Street Journal had very visible feature story about the rise of the Amish romance novel and there have been a gazillion articles since then.  So while this is an interesting article, it's really nothing new.  Click here to read about how the venerable Amish romance genre soldiers on.

EAU CLAIRE COUNTY VS. THE AMISH:  These stories crop up so often and they are so difficult to sort out.  Yes, people - including the Amish - need to follow the rules.  But spending a gazillion government tax dollars, padlocking people's homes, giving them one hour to gather their stuff and leave....really???  I just find it very, very difficult to believe that some kind of compromise couldn't be reached that is in the best interests of everyone, including taxpayers.  Click here to read about Eau Claire County, Wisconsin's bizarre crusade against the Amish.

MILLIE OTTO:  Check in with Illinois Amish columnist Millie Otto, she writes a weekly feature for the News-Gazette in Champaign, Illinois.

AMISH BUNGALOW:  For a cool quarter million this 600 square foot dwelling could be yours!  The Amish neighborhood of Pinecraft, Florida is known for its tiny thimble-sized bungalows and cottages that the Amish winter in.  The winter demand for these dwellings is high and usually the residences are never listed, someone dies and they change hands or or someone knows someone about to sell and the interested party jumps in.  But recently one of the bungalows was listed and you can take a look inside here.
