Amish in the News: Lancaster County Recipes, Mud Sales, Amish Cheese Shop Opens, Pinecraft and More!

Let's check out this week's Amish news.  We have a lot of interesting stuff to dive into, so let's do it.

RECIPES FROM LANCASTER COUNTY:  The Lancaster, Pennsylvania's newspaper website is kind of funky, sometimes it puts up a paywall, other times it does not.  I don't know what their formula is for what is behind a wall and what isn't, but these came up fine for me and hopefully they will for everyone else also.   Check out Amish country classics like sausage, lentil, and bean soup, apple bars, and more here.

MUD SALE SCHEDULE:  Hard to believe that time of year is approaching soon, when Amish communities and volunteer fire companies in and around Lancaster County hold their annual fund-raisers.  The sales are named so because the fields that people park in often become a muddy, pudding-like mess as early spring warmth thaws the grounds.  Click here to get a schedule and mark your calendar...and, man, go just for the food.  Click here.

AMISH CHEESE SHOP OPENS IN CLARE, MICHIGAN:  I have been to the Clare community and it's a great Amish settlement.  Cheese-making enjoys a rich tradition in this area, now Amish cheesemakers have a place to see their wares.  I bet the cheeses taste amazing.  I'll have to make it there sometime.

An Amish woman pedals through Pinecraft....

PINECRAFT:  This is a sort of neat essay about the community of Amish and Mennonite snowbirds from the perspective of a local Sarasotan.  Click here.

ENCHILDA DIP WITH GROUND BEEF:  This comes from Farm and Dairy Magazine, not really an Amish recipe per se, but thought I'd share. Click here to enjoy.
