BUGGY SAFETY: This story is notable mainly because of where it ran/who wrote it: The New York Times. They do seem to maintain an interest in Amish issues and I will say that I like the way they reached out to some more offbeat sources. Often the media goes for the "low hanging fruit", the same sources over and over to get a quick quote about the Amish. As a journalist, I've gone that route too. But there are more than 3 - 4 "Amish experts" out there, there are a whole wealth of people with different experiences and perspectives so I think, true to form, the NYT did a great job on this article. BLAST FROM THE PAST - SAM MULLET ATTEMPTS AN APPEAL: Interesting, Sam Mullet, the leader of the "Amish cult" near Bergholz, Ohio is attempting to get out of jail on appeal citing errors from his previous attorney, Ed Bryan. I had some lengthy conversations with Ed when he was defending Mullet and he seemed to feel very passionately that this was a "local church issue" and the penalty was too severe.  This is an interesting line of defense, doubt it'll work.
