TRAGEDY:  How does a fit, 21-year-old good swimmer drown in a small farm pond?  Just a terrible tragedy on an Amish farm in New York.  The article speculates on the water temperature and cold water can definitely suck the wind out of you and I imagine the water was cold.  Sad story about an Amish young man drowning trying to save his brothers.

A buggy clattering down the road in rural Holmes County near the Wayne County line. Great area to visit in the fall!

AMISH SEPTIC SYSTEM RULING: A court ruled against some Amish families in Minnesota who had been litigating the county's require that Amish families must install a certified septic system for gray water disposal.  I do think the arguments by the Amish were weak.  There's a lot of "cherry picking" of technologies by Amish people, which is fine, but it's tough to make a legal case when the Amish themselves often undercut their own arguments. AMISH COUNTRY CLASSIC WEDGE SALAD:  This is a recipe from Amish Country cook, Lee Ann Miller, if you are looking for a cool crunchy, healthy meal, try this!

SOUR CREAM RHUBARB CRUMB CAKE:  Wow, this dessert sounds absolutely amazing.  Check out Amish writer Millie Otto's latest column along with this beauty of a recipe!

SARA MILLER"S AMISH CORNER:  No recipe with this column, but Sara Miller does a super job of describing life in the fourth largest Amish community in the world: Geauga County, Ohio
