Steaks, like this Amish Sirloin Steak, are popular meat in Plain homes, whether they are T-Bones thrown onto the grill or other cuts of meat that qualify as "steak." (this is an interesting article about the best and worst cuts of meat).

Among the Amish, most have access to their own home-butchered supply of meat.  So steaks and chops are in plentiful supply, usually, which means recipes for fixing those steaks can be real gems.

In fact, Gloria Yoder, who pens the Amish Cook column fixes her steaks by marinating sliced steaks in Italian dressing mixed with seasoning salt for 24 hours. Then wrap each steak with a slice of bacon. Then grrill both sides until no longer pink on the inside, approximately 10 – 15 minutes.

So there are all sorts of ways to fix steaks, so many marinades and sauces and ways to soak them. Brown sugar, molasses, and even Mountain Dew can give good flavor to a mountain of meat.

Many steak marinades and recipes that the Amish use can easily be used on chicken breasts too, which is a bonus.

We prepared this Amish Sirloin Steak using about a one-inch thick boneless sirloin steak from a neighborhood butcher.  You'll get the best meat from those smaller mom and pop places. Most Amish and Mennonite cooks will use high-quality home-butchered meat.

The Oklahoma Amish are legendary for their thick steaks and well-seasoned chops.   Chicken breasts can be used in this recipe and if you want to just forget the grill, you can layer everything in a pan and bake!

Of course, with the price of meat this year, steak may be out of some budgets. That's why chicken might be a more affordable variation.

Many Amish do love to grill steaks outdoors and it often involves bacon or Liquid Smoke.

there used to be a restaurant called Chicken, Steak and Chocolate Cake located not far from Disneyland. It had been in business for many years and reservations were not easy to come by. it was served family style and the refills were unending. It would appear that a lot of confusing freeway construction nearby caused its demise. The food was quite delicious and evoked memories of family get togethers and or reunions and the price was not out of line for the product.Service was quite exemplary as well. FYI.
