The "color wall" was a lot of fun too (that's me, not Aster you see)

for my birthday.  I was torn, I could have perhaps gone on a long hike by myself or a bike ride, something that I just really, really enjoy and don't get to do often. But I do really, really enjoy taking Aster new places too and watch her have fun, so we chose that route for my birthday. Probably the last time the three of us will get to have an outing like before our family grows.

So it was a fun day.  Plenty to keep an almost 3-year-old busy.  In fact, Aster's biggest complaint was that we didn't stay long enough (apparently 3 hours didn't do it for her)

I guess needn’t make everything into teaching moments for Aster.  I’m always quizzing her on what shapes, colors, planets, she is seeing.  Yesterday at the museum there was a wall with all sorts of colorful shapes – triangles, rectangles, circles – velcroed to it and kids can just pull them off, stick them back on, make large patterns, etc.  I saw all the shapes and said:

“Aster, show me a red triangle,”

“Dada we aren’t playing  learn the shapes today, we’re just playing.”

And so we did. Played, played, played.  A fun time!

The museum has a bunch of little "stations" where kids can trying out different things...this is Aster in the "pizza kitchen" station...
