    Easy Amish Apple Coffeecake

    We are entering "apple season", so over the days and weeks ahead I'll be diving into the Amish archives and sharing some classic recipes. This is a favorite, easy coffeecake recipe that comes to us from an Amish woman in Illinois. Enjoy!

    Amish Apple Coffeecake

    Ingredients
    • 1 cup butter
    • 1 cup sugar
    • 2 eggs
    • 1 teaspoon vanilla
    • 2 cups flour
    • 1 teaspoon baking soda
    • 1 teaspoon baking powder
    • 1 cup sour cream
    • ½ cup brown sugar
    • ⅓ cup nuts
    • 4 tablespoons white sugar
    • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
    • 2 apples, peeled and sliced
    Instructions
    1. Cream butter and sugar.
    2. Add eggs and vanilla.
    3. Add dry ingredients alternately with sour cream.
    4. Put half of batter in pan.
    5. Lay apple slices on batter and sprinkle ½ of topping over them.
    6. Add remaining batter and sprinkle topping on it.
    7. Bake in 350 degree F oven 35-40 minutes.

      This sounds wonderful. What size pan is used? Greased or not? I presume the topping is the brown sugar, nuts and white sugar.

        Correct on the topping! And I used a 9 X 9 square pan and it turned out great!
