Posts like this will have more context if you sign up for the Amish365 daily e-newsletter. My 13-year-old niece, Lorelei, is on a cross-country journey with some family. What an adventure! I'm envious. So I gave her a list of things to do and see, things that I would do and see if it were me. I assigned points to each item she completed and she passed her first mission with flying colors: stopping at a Casey's General Store in Illinois and getting some of their pizza. I never said the tasks would be glamorous....
SIGH, so many memories of lazy summer days spent traveling in the Midwest when I was younger and I'd seek a few minutes of cool refuge inside Casey's, catching up on local gossip, buying a local newspaper, getting some pizza. For many small Midwestern towns, Casey's is the heir-apparent to the old time general stores that used to be found in small-towns across the USA.
Ah....Casey's...like this one in Mason City, Iowa.....
Lorelei called Casey's pizza a little greasy, but very warm, "a nice change from gas station food."
A whole selection of pizza...

Casey's Breakfast Pizza is the best. Especially the bacon...

Oooh, thanks for sharing that Christy, I didn't know that about the breakfast pizza, will try sometime!

Casey's have started making their way into Ohio. Union City, Ohio built one in the last year, and there is one in Ottawa, OH as well now. I know there are others on the west side of the state as well.

Thanks, good to know, Stefanie...Union City is not all that far from me!
