    Lovely Lead Mine

    Published: Apr 19, 2014 · Updated: Apr 19, 2014 by Kevin Williams | Leave a Comment

My parents recently explored - or attempted to explore - the Old Order Mennonite settlement at Rich Hill, Missouri.  The Show-Me-State has a diverse and growing community of Plain people.  The largest Amish settlements are near Jamesport and in Webster County. But there are also Old Order German Baptist Brethren in the state and several pockets of Old Order Mennonites.  It sounds like if you want an offbeat, enjoyable Plain experience in Missouri Lead Mine may well be your best bet. I was unfamiliar with this community, but the fact that it has a restaurant owned and operated by OOM makes it worthwhile on that alone.  And the name Lead Mine is kind of cool:) (named after the old mines that honeycomb the hills, but no worries, you won't be exposed to lead just visiting) As I point out in my Williams Guide to Amish Country restaurant opportunities to dine on food prepared by Plain people are rare.  So the Lead Mine Country Store Restaurant will definitely make the next Williams Guide!  Click here to read more about Lead Mine and some of the other Old Order Mennonite owned businesses in the area.
