This recipe for Old-Fashioned Amish Onion Dip comes to us from an Amish woman in Indiana and is a delicious, easy way to add some zip to your chips.

Many Amish grow their own onions so they have a ready supply year-round, so when a fun occasion like New Year's Eve - or the Super Bowl - comes around and a quick dip is in order, then this recipe fits the bill.

Green onions, Vidalia onions, sweet onions, all are popular varieties in Amish gardens. Onions are easy to grow and harvest and they can be used in soups, stews, and salads. Chopped onions are also great as pizza toppers and for flavoring festive dips like this old-fashioned Amish onion dip.

A big bag of potato chips would go well with this dip. Geez, in my part of the world Mike-Sells is a very popular local potato chip, but there are many regional chip favorites in addition to the big national players like Frito-Lay and Pringles. (SIGH, Pringles...I do love them, but they are so easy to eat by the stack).

    Grating the onion

Grating the onion is the most difficult part of this easy recipe! You can use white onions, red onions, or yellow onions. It will all turn out well regardless.

A few ingredients, a lot of flavor!

Milk, mayonnaise, and sour cream are the foundation of this recipe. But you could experiment with a few other ingredients like black pepper or paprika. I don't know, I like this recipe as is because it is so basic, but full of flavor.

    Mixes easily!
    Don't forget the chips!
    Old-Fashioned Amish Onion Dip

Okay, now let's get to this wonderful recipe for Old-Fashioned Amish Onion Dip! This is also a recipe that is popular at many Amish after-church potlucks, picnics, and wedding suppers. Just keep a bag of chips handy and spoon it on to a plate. Gross, no double-dipping please! I do see people doing that sometimes at large events and it always is a turn off.
