Photo of the Day: Traveling Sofa

    Traveling in sofa style

Reader Sheri sent me this photo.  It's blurry, but it shows enough that I thought it'd be fun to share. Or terrifying, depending on your take.

This is a group of Amish on their way back from an auction in Robinson, Illinois. They are headed to their home in Flat Rock, which is where our Amish Cook columnist lives.  I guess these people bought a small sofa which they have on the back of a flatbed trailer.   Well, this is one way to travel!  The girls are just sitting on the sofa as it is pulled along.  Something tells me that if you have to wear a seat belt in your car, that traveling this way on a sofa is probably asking for a ticket  (I don't even know anymore what the rules are about these sorts of things, when I was a kid you'd see plenty of people riding in the bed of a pick-up truck, but that is probably not legal now?)

I talked to Gloria about this photo this morning and by the description she couldn't provide any additional context for this photo.  She said she and her husband recently went to an auction in Robinson, and they did haul stuff back on a flatbed pulled by a tractor.  It's a little tough to tell what this is being pulled by. Maybe reader Sheri can tell us.  But I have been on the highway between Robinson and Flat Rock plenty of times and cars do whiz by fast, so I'm not sure I'd feel safe just lounging on a sofa

Anyway, note the beautiful shades of purple these young people are wearing, such colors are common in the New Order Amish community outside of Flat Rock.

Interesting photo! And by the way, Robinson, IL is where Heath candy bars were invented.

Did not know that, thanks for the info! I know there is a Hershy factory there, but Heath bar...interesting!

Looks like a recliner on the trailer also.
