The Amish Cook's 10-year-old sister, Keturah rides her pony
By Kevin Williams
When I was in Flat Rock recently, Gloria's youngest sister, 10-year-old Keturah was eager to ride on the pony. While most of the time the ponies pull carts, occasionally the lightweight kids will ride upon a pony. Ponies are to Amish kids what tricycles are to n0n-Amish kids, a sort of safe way to learn and prepare for handling the much larger horses. The logs stacked in the background will head into Gloria's husband's furniture store and be made into exquisitely handcrafted pieces and beyond that is the lush Illinois countryside. Summer in southern Illinois is brutally hot, but it is also very pretty with a bright green lushness that permeates the land.
And that is our picture of the week!
