Highland County, Ohio has really become a magnet for Amish residents over the past 10 years.  In fact, I can envision Highland County sort of becoming a "Holmes County South" in Ohio.  You just have such a huge Plain population growing there.  Highland County is  midway between Columbus and Cincinnati and pretty far off any highway, so it's rural, landlocked, insular, all ingredients Amish like.  Highland County has some beauty too, I don't think anything can compete with Holmes County's rolling hills, but Highland does have a serene and scenic beauty.
Here is some of what I found in my latest romp through the county:
Highland County's Amish communities feature a mix of traditional closed top black buggies and open carts like this one
This is a very traditional buggy sitting by a pond by an Amish log home, beautiful settings like this are common in Highland County.
Drive around enough and you'll score some fresh eggs from an Amish farm.
A sign shows the way to a "Bent n Dent" store, and home to Yoder's "Famous Cashew Crunch."
And, we arrive!
Don't park in the buggy spot!
And - SIGH - don't come on a Thursday either. In this Amish community businesses are closed on Thursdays. Thursdays is a common day for weddings or frolics, so most Amish businesses just keep Thursday - and Sunday - as standing days off. So, if you are going to come to Highland County, don't do it on a Thursday. The Bent n Dent was closed, a few items were on the porch, but the door was closed and locked with a sign saying "Closed on Thursdays."
