    The Amish

    Published: Jun 10, 2013 · Updated: Feb 2, 2021 by Kevin Williams | 6 Comments

THE AMISH: A troika of well-known academics who study the Amish have collaborated on what sounds like a fascinating book.  I'll try to get my hands on a review copy and share more with all of you. But you can read more about this book, plainly and appropriately entitled: The Amish.  It may be the single best reference book written about them.  Click here to read more about The Amish.

Sounds like a really interesting book- I will have to check it out.
I'm wondering about this blurb from the article: "The women who teach in Swartzentruber communities teach at most for two years..." Why 2 years, I wonder? It seems like if you found a good teacher, you'd want to hang on to them as long as possible.

Debbie, most Amish women don't hold down jobs while being a Mom and a wife, so my guess is the Swartz teachers will be young women, very young, maybe age 17 or so...they'll teach for a couple of years and then exit the job to get married.

Ah, that makes more sense. I was thinking it was a hard and fast rule, rather than "this is what usually happens".

I love reading books from this trio of authors! They really go into depth and dismiss myths and insinuations about the Amish. I can't wait to read it 🙂

Guess who was mentioned in the book??
"The popular syndicated column "The Amish Cook" is featured in The Amish Cook From Oasis Newsfeatures, a blog sponsored by the publisher of the column's print version." (The Amish; page 397)

      Congratulations 🙂
