Amish cheeseburger salad is a recipe that has become popular on tables for the after-church lunch at gatherings.  You know, there are several advantages to this recipe.  One obvious one, I would think, is that this would be like enjoying a cheeseburger without the carb-loaded bread.   So the anti-carb crowd might like this recipe. This salad is essentially a deconstruted cheeseburger in a bowl.

Colorful ingredients will make for a colorful salad. Suzette added some bell pepper to the mix, this recipe allows for some experimentation!

Second, for a large Amish church gathering, fixing a bunch of cheeseburgers for guests is a bit impractical, with having to buy a ton of buns, grill space, etc.   This recipe, though, gives you everything a cheeseburger has - right down to the ketchup and mustard - without having to worry about shaping the meat into patties, dealing with the buns, etc.  Rather  a resourceful recipe.  Thank you a ton to reader Suzette for testing this recipe and taking these amazing photos.  This Amish cheeseburger salad is sure to be a crowd pleaser.

Hmmmm, I'm thinking eating this with some tortilla chips and maybe scooping some of it up with the chips and eating it? Just a thought...

This Amish cheeseburger salad is a great, in my opinion, "winter salad." I mean, when it is 90 degrees out in July, I'm not sure a heavy meat on lettuce with all the fixin's would be as appealing. But for a hearty salad during the colder months, seems like a winner. Just my opinion, you can fix it and enjoy it any month of the year.

At most Amish church gatherings, if it’s a big Amish church, there will be featured many different choices of foods. You’ll see tables filled with salads, entrées, breads, cookies, drinks, it’s quite a food affair. Something like this Amish cheeseburger salad would be just one part of a much larger spread.

Usually, the person holding the church service is the one responsible for furnishing all the food. Yes, often there’s help in preparing all of it, but it’s still a lot of work. So salads, casseroles, things that can be thrown together quickly are really prized recipes. And this Amish cheeseburger salad definitely fits that bill.

And as I often note on ground beef recipes, most Amish use their own home butchered ground beef, which I think really increases the flavor. Any meat-based salad, chicken, ham, or ground beef, are probably made with home-butchered meats. Tuna salad is something that I can think of that would be an obvious exception to this rule!

I am not sure if fries would go well with this salad.

So where does the ketchup & mustard go? The pickle relish?

Sorry, Sherrie, I should have been more clear in instructions.. you just sort of toss that in with everything else, although you could also do it last and it's more like a condiment. Really just a matter of your preference....I'd probably add it last..
