Adding a chocolate twist to anything makes it better:) Well, maybe not anything....I'm still not sure about chocolate chip pancakes. But in the culinary world of the Amish, there is "chocolate shoofly pie" (I stumbled into some at a bakery in Pennsylvania once), chocolate custard, chocolate vanilla doughnuts...if the Amish make it, you can most likely add chocolate to it. Until recently, however, I had not seen a recipe for chocolate friendship bread. Thanks to reader Theresa for making it and sharing it with us in a photo. Doesn't this look tasty? Below is the recipe.
- Friendship Starter
- 3 eggs
- 1 cup vegetable or coconut oil
- ½ cup milk
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- ½ teaspoon vanilla
- 1½ teaspoon baking powder
- ½ teaspoon baking soda
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 2 cups flour
- 1 large box instant chocolate pudding (about 5.9 oz.)
- Additional ½ cup sugar for dusting pans
- Preheat oven to 325 degrees
- Grease or butter 2 large loaf pans.
- Dust the greased pans with ¼ cup sugar.
- Mix all ingredients.
- Pour batter evenly into the pans and sprinkle the top with remaining sugar.
- Bake for 1 hour. Cool until bread loosens from sides of pan and turn out to serving dish.

I'm not sure if I understand this recipe correctly. At the beginning of the ingredients, it begins with 'Frienship starter' being the first ingredient? Or is it saying that all the ingredients beneath it are the friendship starter? Am I missing something here? I would really like to try this....can someone please help me with this?
Kevin
Teresa, thanks for stopping by...I can see how that might be unclear. No, it is saying start with "Friendship starter" (many recipes for starter out there)...The rest then are the ingredients for the chocolate friendship bread. Good luck! - Kevin
