Beekeeping is a relatively popular pastime among the Amish. Beekeeping sort of fits in the same category as tapping trees, It’s another tool for self-sufficiency. It’s not something that every Amish does, by any means, but usually you find one or two beekeepers and almost every Amish community. Having somebody local provides a local source of honey, and the flavor is suddenly different from place to place depending on the nectars and clovers and flowers that the bees pollinate.

Honey is an important staple in Amish kitchens because, like maple syrup, honey can be used as a sugar substitute in many instances. If a recipe calls for sugar, and you don’t have sugar, you can often replace it with a like  amount of honey

    Bee Nutty!

So, I will reluctantly, and grudgingly, keep the nuts in this recipe for Amish Bee Nutty Chocolate Chip Cookies as non-optional. Of course, you can do whatever you want… You can omit the nuts, I’m not usually a fan of nuts. People feel like they have to throw nuts into everything, and - in my opinion - it ruins it. In this case, though, the nuts really seem to pair well with the chocolate chips and the honey.

A sign advertising honey at an Amish farm outside Beeville, Texas. Honey finds itself way into many recipes, like these cookies!

This cookie has pretty basic ingredients!

Amish Bee Nutty Chocolate Chip Cookies is a recipe from Amish baker Carol Gingerich in Missouri, these sound amazing, will have to try these!  These cookies come out rather large with 1 /4 cup of batter being used for each cookie. I'm sure if you don't want massive cookies that you could easily cut their size in half.

I am sorry Kevin, but your choice of lemon drink is awful to me. I get a lot of things from Aldis, but won't go back for this one.
I have 5 cans and if you were close would give them to you. Sorry I know not everyone has the same taste and I love lemon, this is just tooo strong

I agree with you Kevin, I dont like nuts in most things especially cookies and brownies. Chocolate pixies, turtles, with pecans are ok though. 🙂
