Amish in the News: Amish Bridge Issues, Kate Stoltz, Benefit Chicken Dinner, More Millie, and Mennonite Drive

We have an interesting slate of stories populating our Amish in the News section this week.

BRIDGE INCONVENIENCE:  A bridge on Pennsylvania State Route 372 closed last week due to a crack found in the span.  So the stay closed the bridge, but that closure has had a ripple effect through the area economy, which includes a lot of Amish.  Click here to read the scoop.

KATE STOLTZ:  From Amish to model.  I don't have much use for the show "Breaking Amish", but it sounds like this young woman has gone through an incredible journey from the barn to the catwalk.  I know you can't believe everything you read, but this article was very interesting and if the story is true, it really is quite extraordinary.  Most people who leave the Amish don't do so in such a public fashion. Click here to read more about the journey of Kate Stotlz.

CONNEAUTVILLE AMISH:  If you are anywhere near Erie, PA; Meadville, PA; Youngstown, Ohio, etc you really need to put this Oct 9 event on your calendar.  Click here for more info.  Conneautville is an Amish settlement that I would love to visit someday but my understanding is that it is a more progressive community.

TACO CRESCENT CAKE:   Check out Amish columnist Millie Otto's recipe for "Taco Cresent Cake" and read about the goings on in her life in the sprawling Amish settlement of Arthur, Illinois.  Click here.

MISSOURI MENNONITES:  This is a surprisingly delightful piece for such a small newspaper (or large for that matter).  A small Missouri newspaper ran a great story and photo package about the community of Old Order Mennonites in their area.  Click here to read the piece, it's worth visiting just for the beautiful photography!
