Amish in the News: Hunters in Red; Simply Amish Rhubarb Jam; Hutterite Singing, and Breaking Amish

We have a nice selection of Amish in the News stories for your enjoyment.

Acadia 076RED VEST VS. ORANGE VEST:  Emergency legislation is pending in Maine to amend current hunting requirements that require orange safety vests.  It is interesting to me that the orange is not acceptable to Amish hunters, but the red is.  Also, the Amish in Maine tend to be pretty progressive, so I'm surprised that there is objection to the orange in the first place.  The article doesn't state where the objections were raised. I'm almost wondering if the opposition to orange is coming from the ultra-conservative Fort Fairfield settlement.  Click here to read the article.

HUTTERITE VOICES:  Montana's NPR affiliate presented a rare 5-minute audio clip interviewing some unmarried Hutterite women who talk about their lives and share some of their song. So for amazing harmony, listen to this, it is a real treat.  Hutterite are the "third branch" of Anabaptistm, along with the Amish and Mennonites.

SIMPLY AMISH RHUBARB JAM:  Arlene Schmidt is a talented Amish writer outside of New Castle, Indiana who writes a twice-monthly column for the local paper.  Her roots are Swiss Amish and her writing reflects that.  So let's check in with the Schmidts and this week she shares a recipe for rhubarb jam.

BREAKING AMISH/RETURN TO AMISH: Breaking Amish's new season debuted on TLC last night.  I could care less about it, but it is a popular show. Apparently cast member Sabrina will not be rejoining the cast.  If you care, click here to read about this latest development.
