Amish in the News: Tragedy in Berne, Maine Amish Writer, Millie's Cinnamon Bread, and More!

Let's check out this week's Amish in the News, it's been a busy week and, unfortunately, some tragedy.

BERNE, INDIANA:  An 11-year-old Amish boy was shot and killed by his sibling in what appears to be a tragic accident.  When I first heard the story I thought it was unusual, because most Amish do not own handguns.  But this apparently involves a rifle, which the Amish are far more likely to own, primarily for hunting.  Read here about this tragic accident.

WRITER:  I'm not a huge fan of Amish fiction.  I'm a middle-aged guy and most of these books are aimed at a different demographic than me.  I'll at least give kudos to Ashley Emma for moving in with an Amish family and trying to learn their customs.  I know the family she stayed with..the Stolls...very kind family, a bit more progressive than the average Amish.  But, anyway, click here to read more and watch a video interview with the author.

AMISH PRESENTATION:  I know we have a handful of readers in the Parkersburg, WV-Athens, Ohio area...if you are one of them, there is a really interesting-sounding symposium complete with plenty of photos and some Amish lecturers (actual Amish people).....Amish bishop David Kline is one of the presenters , you can read more about this upcoming event here.
