This is a classic one-dish Amish recipe, great on a busy day or a lazy Sunday!
IRON SKILLET SUPPER
1 pound hamburger
1 small onion
2 cups potatoes, cut into strips
2 cups shredded cabbage
2 cups celery cut fine
1 /2 cup water
Fry hamburger and onion in an iron skillet until onion changes color and hamburger is brown, then add potatoes, cabbage, and celery. Sprinkle with salt. Â Add water. Â Cover and simmer for 20 minutes or until vegetables are done.
The iron skillet gets a lot of use in the Amish kitchen but, of course, any of these recipes can be made in a regular stainless steel one!
