This is a classic one-dish Amish recipe, great on a busy day or a lazy Sunday!
IRON SKILLET SUPPER
1 pound hamburger
1 small onion
2 cups potatoes, cut into strips
2 cups shredded cabbage
2 cups celery cut fine
1 /2 cup water
Fry hamburger and onion in an iron skillet until onion changes color and hamburger is brown, then add potatoes, cabbage, and celery. Sprinkle with salt. Add water. Cover and simmer for 20 minutes or until vegetables are done.
The iron skillet gets a lot of use in the Amish kitchen but, of course, any of these recipes can be made in a regular stainless steel one!
