Kaffee Haus even has a drive-thru!

So I found myself in the tiny outpost of Odon, Indiana the other day. Â Odon is near the large Daviess County, Indiana Amish community just off the spankin' brand new Interstate 69 which angles from Evansville in the south to Bloomington, Indiana in the north. At one time there had been an "Amish buffet" in town but - unbeknownst to me - it recently closed its doors. Â Major bummer. I was looking forward to piling my plate multiple times at an endless Amish buffet. Â No such luck. Â EssenHaus Amish buffet apparently is no more. Â But, there's still a place in Odon worth stopping at for some tasty, authentic Amish cooking and baking: Kaffe Haus Bakery & Restaurant owned by Leann Wagler. Â Leann herself isn't Amish, but she comes from a family of Amish and employs skilled Amish bakers.
A chalkboard lists the specials
You won't find a buffet here, but you will find a chalkboard with plenty of delicious supper specials and a bakery that churns out popular confections like iced sugar cookies, sweet rolls, and homemade bread. Â I made the mistake of picking up some iced sugar cookies and sweet rolls to take home ("Mistake" because they were delicious and I am trying to watch my diet).
Coconut cream pie is a swift seller here
I had noodles, beans and tater tot casserole for my supper while my Mom had some meat dish and green beans. Â All the food was great and reasonably priced. Â The two of us ate a hearty supper for less than $15.
The restaurant has a drive-thru and apparently pizzas are a popular draw.  So, in my opinion (and I try not to steer you wrong), if you find yourself around Odon, Indiana (and who doesn't at some point or another?  Okay, that  was a joke), Kaffee Haus is definitely worth a stop!
