    Amish Triple Treat Cookies

Amish Triple treat cookies are one of these fun cookies that, while likely not Amish in origin, has found its way into Amish kitchens and hearts to become favorites within the community.  The cookie is easy to make, but packed full of flavor.

I picked up some Triple Treat Cookies at a Mennonite bakery recently and, man, they were so good. And so big. Which made them my kind of cookie.

Busy Amish cooks and bakers weigh the same pros and cons out with baking cookies that anyone else does:

PRO:  You can stick a plate of cookies out that will feed dozens and dozens of people with a portable dessert.  No cutting.   No utensils needed.  Just grab and go.  So cookies are perfect for an Amish after-church gathering where scores of people gather.  A plate of cookies are often passed around during church services for the Amish kids in attendance.

CONS: Cookies, by their very nature, are labor-intensive. You have to tie up several cookie sheets and all your oven space for the afternoon as you pull cookies in and out of the oven.

There is appeal in making many cookie recipes into “bars”, but while that saves work on the front end, it creates work on the back end.  If you make bars for a church gathering, for instance, they’ll still have to be cut into bars, packaged, etc

Amish triple treat cookies are an irresistible grab for anyone and brings out the kid in us all!

You can use wheat flour, you can easily halve this recipe, that is what I did....

The recipe calls for regular all-purpose flour, but you can use whole wheat flour. I've been using that more and more as opposed to plain white flour.

    Farm Fresh Eggs
    Farm fresh eggs...

Use two eggs, the fresher the better. Most Amish have access to their own supply of farm-fresh eggs.

Now, let's get to the recipe so you can make these beauties!

    🍪 Triple Treat Cookie Ingredients

    • 3 cups all-purpose flour
    • 2 teaspoons baking soda
    • ½ teaspoon salt
    • 1 cup melted butter
    • 1 cup peanut butter
    • 1 cup M&M’S®
    • 1 cup semi sweet chocolate chips
    • ¾ cup butterscotch chips
    • 1 cup sugar
    • 1 cup brown sugar, firmly packed
    • 2 eggs
    • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

    📋 Cookie Instructions

    1. Preheat oven to 350.
    2. In a large mixing bowl, mix the ingredients until well combined and drop by spoonfuls onto an ungreased cookie sheet.
    3. Bake at 350 degrees for 10 to 15 minutes, or until golden around the edges.

Are these cookies somewhat moist or are they a dry cookie?

        I'd call it a medium cookie....on a scale of 1 - 10, 10 being driest, about a 6...

I printed the recipe and set it aside. Made it a few weeks back. I'm not sure if it's the butterscotch chips with the peanut butter and chocolate or what, but they have a really good flavor. Will put the recipe in my favorites folder.
