    Byler's Grocery Store

There are few Amish businesses in New Wilmington, Pennsylvania that cater to tourists.  But Byler's Grocery Store, New New Wilmington, Pennsylvania is about as close as you'll come. Most Amish businesses cater to Amish.  And while that is bad in some ways (if you are looking for knick-knacks or faceless dolls), it does give you a very authentic cultural experience.  What you see on the shelves of an Amish bulk food store are what Amish people are buying.  Some of the more touristy Amish stores will sell spelt and coconut oil in bulk, well, those aren't that popular among the Amish.  But the soda you see on the shelves in this photo, and anything else, they are there because Amish buy them.

This is Byler's Grocery Store outside of New Wilmington, PA at 581 Fayette-Neshannock Falls Rd.  The store is actually located in the lower level of an Amish home, and this is one of the more touristy places you'll find here.  Don't expect to pay with credit card, cash or check only.   Compared to better known Amish-run bulk food stores, this is pretty small, but authentic and genuine!  I did take a short video inside the store, I don't think it was disrespectful to do so.  The store is open to the public, so anyone could see what I videoed and I made sure no people were present.  Click here for the video.

Definitely worth stopping by if you are in the area!

This looks like something about of an 1890s general store, but it's the check-out at Byler's...

A cozy woodstove keeps the store toasty...

small store, but plenty of selection...
