The Friends of Chrisholm are excited to announce plans for celebrating the 200th Anniversary of the Settlement of the Amish Community in Butler County Ohio, now represented by the Chrisholm Historic Farmstead, MetroParks. The celebration will take place on Saturday, June 22 and with everyone warmly invited.
The 200th Anniversary Celebration will unfold in two acts. The venue for the first act will be the Fellowship Hall at the Trenton Mennonite Church in Trenton and will feature two speakers from the Holmes County Amish Community followed by a banquet at noon. This event is open to all and the charge for dinner is $24. If interested in attending the banquet please make your reservation as soon as possible because seating will be limited.
David Kline and Edward Kline, our Amish speakers, will each give us a glimpse into the Amish perspective on our “failed” or extinct Butler County Amish settlement.
David Kline is a farmer, editor and publisher of Farming Magazine, and author of several books. Edward Kline is the owner of Kline Lumber and founder of the Amish Library that is now housed within the Amish and Mennonite Heritage Center. Also coming to the celebration are Wayne Miller, a retired businessperson and curator of the Amish Mennonite Library, and Leroy Beachy, author and illustrator of the popular two volume, Unser Leit . . . The Story of the Amish.
The second act of the celebration will unfold at the Chrisholm Historic Farmstead, MetroParks, at 2 pm and last until 4. This family-friendly event will feature wagon rides, farm animals, free ice cream, homemade desserts, a Model T car parade, and live music provided by the popular Lagniappe: Cajun-Zydeco Band. Inside the Augspurger home will be a display, The Story of the First 100 Years of the Amish Mennonite Settlement in 10 Objects, a slide show of early photographs of the founding families, music by Kathy Archdeacon, and self-guided tours.
