    Peanut Butter Meltaways.....

    Amish peanut butter meltaways

I was visiting one of my favorite Amish-owned bulk   food stores over the weekend and, as always, came away with some delicious treats.  Owner Stevie Miller is one of the best Amish businessmen I've ever met.  He's cheerful, innovative and hard-working. But when it comes to closing time on a Saturday he means it.  Rachel and I got there at 3:45 p.m. and the store closes at 4 p.m.  Since the store - obviously - lacks an intercom, Stevie himself stood up on one of the counters and shouted to everyone that they had 10 minutes to gather their final purchases and bring them to the register for check-out.   A few minutes later, he announced that any customer still inside at 4 p.m. would have to help clean up.  He made the boisterous announcements all in good fun, but I imagine after a six-day work week of 10 hour days he probably is in a hurry to clear the store and enjoy the one day off a week that he gets.

The bakery featured some cookies called "Peanut butter melt-aways", which was one of the final items I grabbed before closing. Mmmmmm, they definitely melted away once I bought them.  I couldn't stop eating them.  It just looked like your garden-variety peanut butter cookie with some flecks of chocolate, but the cookie was so soft and delicious I couldn't stop eating them.  Now that they are gone, I have  stoppped eating them!:) But, wow...delicious.

I searched high and low in my Amish recipe archives for something similar and I just couldn't find a recipe. But I found a blog that did post something very similar along with a recipe, so you can click here to get a recipe to make these beauties yourself.  Yum! Click here for the recipe!
