    Picturesque New Wilmington

New Wilmington, Pennsylvania is home to an Amish community of 20 church districts, which is a pretty sizable settlement.  It isn't in the Top 10 largest, but it's in the Top 20.....

Now, in tomorrow's post I'll give you some reasons you should consider visiting and some reasons you might not to visit.  But in terms of just basic scenic beautiful, to my eye, New Wilmington would make a run for a spot on the Top 10 most scenic settlements.

Not sure whether it was just the beautiful, golden late autumn light but the rural rolling hills just seemed so colorful  The panoramas, free of power-poles, were enchanting, the brown buggies beautiful, and the sprawling, rambling farmhouses very scenic.

This is a pretty conservative Amish community. There's not much toleration of photos here and it's pretty insular.

But, for today, I'll leave you with a few photos of the scenic beauty (more tomorrow about Amish businesses, etc in the town).

How often do you see this? A horse pulling a buggy pulling a horse.....pretty cool...

The sign for the microbrewery is interesting, but what really caught my eye was this old-time Rite-Aid in downtown New Wilmington...you don't see many old storefront Rite-Aids anymore.....(and for those not from around here, it is a pharmacy chain in the USA)

    Shocks of winter wheat....

The Amish of New Wilmington do not have phones in their homes, but they do have plenty of centrally located phone shanties like this strategically located throughout the countryside. Inside the shanties is a typical, old-fashioned deposit-a-quarter payphone for making calls...

Lots of horses in New Wilmington, this one lazily muching in a pasture.
