Ponies are the "tricycles" of Amish culture. Horses are the weighty animals used to pull big buggies and heavier loads, but ponies are great for children and teenagers just learning to "drive." Or for a quick run to the market. Amish Cook columnist Gloria Yoder lives near a little bulk food and grocery and the pony and cart is perfect for a quick journey to the store. When I was visiting last week her younger sister met us at the market with the pony and cart, which would soon be loaded up with groceries.
