Amish Yummy Pumpkin Dessert
AMISH PUMPKIN YUMMY DESSERT: Â I love the names of some Amish recipes and this is one that is pretty straight forward "pumpkin yummy" sounds good to me. Even better as a dessert! This recipe that Patricia posted comes from one of my favorite Amish settlements, the Conewango Valley of New York. Â It's a pretty conservative settlement but a great place for an outsider to visit to experience a very authentic form of Amish culture. Click here for the recipe.
BRUCE STAMBAUGH: Ugh, I am going to miss this man's writing. Â SIGH, was always hoping to meet up with him in Holmes County when I had a chance but, alas, Bruce Stambaugh - an extremely talented and articulate voice in Amish Country - is moving to Harrisonburg, VA. Â Long-timers here know that I've spent a lot of time in that area over the years and there is a large Old Order Mennonite community in nearby Dayton, so I'm hoping we'll still hear from Bruce from time to time. Â Bruce writes a bit about his transitioning to Virginia here.
AMISH CINNAMON BROWN SUGAR COOKIES:  Wow, this sounds amazing...check out this recipe from Cookies  and Cups here.
AIRBNB - I have to admit, I'm not at all familiar with AirBnB but I keep hearing about it.  I guess you can use it to stay in a private home? Have any of our readers here used it? If so, would you mind sharing a bit how it works?  I mean, I know if I book online at a hotel I can show up whenever, have a key waiting, clean linens on the bed, how does  all work with AirBnB, I just show up at someone's house?  Anyway, I saw this listing where you can stay in an Amish dawdy haus (a separate home or add-on to a home reserved for elderly Amish, never seen it spelled "dawdi" before, so I'll stick with my spelling) for $80 a night in Holmes County, Ohio, that sounds to me like the coolest thing ever. Check it out here.
10 COLD WEATHER RECIPES: Â Conservative Mennonite blogger Gina turns in a gem this week with a post listing 10 awesome cold weather recipes from Stoltzfus Chicken to "Hog Maw Casserole", some good stuff here, check it out.
KATIE TROYER CALENDAR: Â Man, this would be a great one to order.....Katie's wonderful photos of Amish life in Pinecraft on a wall calendar for a year, sounds super...click here to see how to order.
Speaking of photos...
THE PLAIN PEOPLE: Â The Happy Wonderer blog posted a marvelous selection of photos from Indiana and Ohio's Amish country....admittedly, there was not much context given to the photos, but they are still fun to scroll through. Makes me want to head to Amish country today. Click here.
Lastly...
AMISH SIDE OF ME: Â Mandy offers up a recipe this week for Apple Crisp Cheesecake....sounds amazing, click here.
