    Published: Oct 16, 2021 · Updated: Apr 29, 2022 by Kevin Williams | Leave a Comment

Time for trending recipes again, that time when peer into the Amish365 crystal ball to see which recipes are gaining clicks and ready to pop! Let's see what we have this week.

    🥗 Trending Salads

Amish Creamy Coleslaw: This is an authentic Amish recipe, very basic and full of flavor. This is a bit more about the recipe:

this slaw recipe comes to us from an Amish man in the community of Vanceburg, Kentucky.  Would love to some day visit there and meeting this Amish gentleman who seems to know his way around the kitchen quite well!   By the way, in this recipe, where it says "salad dressing" we'll assume he means "Miracle Whip" unless someone else has any other ideas

    🍲 Trending Amish Meals

Amish Winter Sausage and Potato Casserole: This is a very hearty meal as we edge into the cooler months, here is a bit more about it:

Hog butchering is often done during the winter on Amish farmsteads. The job is messy, tedious, and labor-intensive. Who wants to do that in the middle of July?  So the big job of butchering hogs is saved for a cold winter’s day, usually in February or March.   A whole family will band together to tackle it or an Amish church will do it.   It’s not a pretty scene but, in the end, they’ll come away with all the hams, sausage, and chops needed for a year until it is time for the next “butchering day.” The ground sausage will end up in dishes like this Hearty Amish Winter Sausage and Potato Casserole

Mennonite Ham Meatballs: This is a wonderful party food, so keep that in mind with the upcoming holidays...and here's a bit more about the recipe:

Whether it is among the Amish, Mennonites, or non-Amish ham seems to make an appearance at the major holidays (except Thanksgiving).  Easter seems to bring out whole hams served glazed and sliced whereas Christmas seems to bring out the variations from croquettes to casseroles to meatballs. And that is what I have for you today: a delicious recipe for ham meatballs from a Mennonite cook in Iowa.

    Mom's Goulash
    Mom's Goulash

Mom's Goulash: Check out this perfect-for-autumn favorite:

A hearty, hot goulash can really be perfect on a crisp autumn or winter day.  Reader Karen from Kentucky was nice enough to share this recipe with us and it really does have Amish overtones.  Goulash is popular in the Amish settlement in Aylmer, Ontario and is often served at weddings there.  This goulash looks - and sounds - very similiar, so I wanted to share it.

    🎂 Trending Autumn Amish Desserts

Homemade Squash Squares: Of course, autumn means squash, so here is a great recipe for a classic dessert this time of year!

    Favorite Amish Photos

I have so many favorite photos of Amish scenes that I've accumulated over the years, I thought I'd share a few of my favorites!

    New Wilmington, Pennsylvania Amish
How often do you see this? A horse pulling a buggy pullng a horse.....pretty cool...

The Amish buggies in New Wilmington have a distinctive brown color which, to me, makes them enchanting and beautiful. Especially on a bright blue fall day.

Brrrrr, hearty Amish youth braving the cold for recess!

    Daviess
Horsepower: Farming by horse-drawn plow is still common among the Amish in the Holmes area, especially the ultraconservative Swartzentruber Amish.

This buggy was in Holmes County, Ohio where this type of farming is still common.
