Nestled in the heart of Lancaster County's Pennsylvania Dutch Country, Dutch Wonderland stands as one of America's premier family theme parks. I call it the "Disney world of Amish Country" and it is has been creating magical moments for parents and kids to experience together for over 60 years. This charming 48-acre theme park has earned its reputation as the World's Best Family Park and consistently ranks among the top children's amusement parks globally.

🏰 A Potato Farmer's Dream Come True
The story of Dutch Wonderland began with an unlikely entrepreneur: Earl Clark, a potato farmer who bought and sold potatoes for area potato chip factories. Despite having little to no experience with amusement parks, Clark had a vision to create something special for families visiting Lancaster County.
On Oct. 28, 1962, the Sunday News published a photo of a strange sight - a fairytale castle being built in the middle of Lancaster County farm country. The entrance to the park has a stone imitation castle façade, which was built by Earl Clark himself before the park officially opened on May 20, 1963.
The park started modestly with only four rides on opening day - the Wonderland Special steam train; the Lady Gay riverboat (which was a replica of a vessel that once plied the waters of the Conestoga); the Turnpike, with its drivable antique-style cars; and the Whale Boats. Those visiting 61 years later can still find all four of these rides in operation (SIGH, I love stream trains...I was here years ago, I need to go back!).

🎪 Perfect for Lancaster County Itinerary
Dutch Wonderland is nestled in the heart of Lancaster County, along U.S. Route 30 (directly across from Tanger), and was one of the original tourist attractions in the Pennsylvania Dutch Country. The park serves as an ideal complement to exploring Amish Country, offering modern family fun amid the region's rich cultural heritage.
Whether you're seeking gentle thrills for toddlers, family bonding experiences, or simply want to create magical memories, Dutch Wonderland delivers exactly what its founder Earl Clark envisioned six decades ago: a place where families can experience joy together in Pennsylvania's beautiful Dutch Country.
The park continues to evolve while maintaining its family-first philosophy, recently being sold to Herschend Family Entertainment in early 2025, ensuring its legacy as America's premier family theme park will continue for generations to come.
