World's Best Chicken Casserole is another "throw together" casserole. All very similiar, correct? Yes, correct. I mean I have said before that you could, literally, eat a casserole like this for supper in an Amish home for 365 days straight and never eat the exact same thing but eat something similar. There are just so many variations on these one-pan, throw-together meals. Some involve canned soups, some don't. Some involve Velveeta cheese, some day. Some have mushrooms, some don't. There are just a gazillion combinations of variations and ingredients,

I think what makes World's Best Chicken Casserole casserole "unique" (none of them are truly unique, they just have individual tweaks and differences) is the crumb topping of this one. So good. I love a bit of crunch to my casserole and this delivers.

The chicken in this can be diced, shredded, chunked, I think I'd prefer just big pieces, but you can do it however you want. Load it up with chicken, but you can adjust the proportions how you have like. Just don't change the crunchy, buttery topping!

The noodles in this, well, you can use store-bought, but most Amish cooks would use a homemade noodles and it really does make a difference when you use fresh, homemade ingredients versus bought. But for most of us, bought is the route we'll go.

These casseroles part of a rich tradition of hearty "throw together" meals that are popular in Amish homes. They feed largely families quickly and cheapy and, mmmm, nothing better than a heaping helping of this on a cold winter's night or a summer Sunday.

This casserole recipe comes to us from Alma Miller, an Amish woman in Ohio. I've met her before and she whips up some fine casseroles in the hill country of Holmes County.

    Out of the oven...
Serve with a veggie like peas...
