Green beans are a go-to vegetable in Amish kitchens, and they find their way in the mini side dishes. They’re easy, full of flavor and fiber and vitamins and minerals. Bring beans also pair well with protein: bacon, for instance. And ham. Of course, there is nothing like fresh green beans from the garden or farmer's market during the summer.

Many Amish cooks grow green beans in their gardens over the summer, and then can them like crazy in the autumn and they can have a great supply of them throughout the winter months and throughout the year. Unlike other Thanksgiving favorites, like broccoli, green beans are very conducive to home canning.
This particular recipe, for Amish barbecued green beans, also known as Amish Crack Green Beans, it’s just so easy but it’s full of flavor. This is a classic Amish recipe, just a few ingredients, but they really do pack a flavorful punch. So if you’re looking for something easy, quick, but a crowd pleaser, Amish Barbecued Green Beans is a side dish you might want to consider. Corn and sweet potatoes are two other very popular Amish Thanksgiving side dishes, by the way.
This recipe only has five ingredients, but these 5 ingredients deliver. If you are really feeling lazy, you can ditch the ketchup and brown sugar and use your own favorite bottled barbecue sauce instead.
You can season with salt and pepper or some onion powder or garlic salt. Chopped up some cooked potatoes into this would be a nice addition also. Some Worcestershire sauce can really perk up green beans, too. I love the taste of green beans with Worcestershire sauce. Cayenne pepper could go well if you like some heat. I'd not add cheese to this. Cheesy green beans? No, doesn't work for me.
Much of this dish is made in a skillet, where you saute the onions in bacon grease and add the catsup and brown sugar. If it were me, I might be tempted to add some molasses to it, just for a little bit more flavor, but that is a personal preference.
You want to have nice thick chunks and pieces of bacon throughout the green bean mixture. Then you'll get great flavor! This dish is a favorite to take to Amish potlucks because you can easily double and triple the recipe. You just need to find a larger baking dish. And the total time to make this meal is not very long, at least the part before you put it into the oven. Keep some paper towels handy to clean up any bacon splatter.
Anyway, this dish is delicious, share it on social media and enjoy!

BEAN FUDGE
I am always so intrigued with this recipe. You may be thinking, what does this have to do with beans? Well, it is fudge made from beans. The one time I made it, it was really, really good...it just didn't "set" like maybe it should have...it was, I think, too creamy, but I'd love to take another crack.
