The weather in west-central Ohio this week has been quite gorgeous interrupted only by a few rounds of drenching rain. Site visitor Diann spent some time in one of my favorite Amish settlements this week: Belle Center, Ohio. This is a New Order settlement about an hour north of Dayton. She was nice enough to share some scenes with us. These are some beautiful images. Some little observations: note the string of purple martin gourd houses in the top farmhouse photo. And note the solar panel atop the Amish school. There is an increasing acceptance of off-the-grid technology like solar and wind to provide limited electricity without being completely wired into the world.
Hardin County got its own section in the Williams Guide to Amish Country because it offers a more traditional, bucolic Amish experience than the more crowded Holmes County.
