Kit Kat Brownies. Wow, wow, and wow.
When I saw reader Penny post these on her Facebook page, I had to ask if I could share. But let's step back for a minute and look at the bigger picture. Kit Kats are a staple of Halloween treat buckets...I love Kit Kats, but also salivate over Reeses and Twix. Anyway, Kit Kats are amazing. So, do the Amish partake in trick or treating? Do Amish children go door to door heaving around large buckets of candy? Generally, no. Now, for every rule there is an exception, so perhaps there is an Amish child here and there that does it, but it is rare. Halloween is seen as frivolous and perhaps having anti-church undertones.
That does not mean that the Amish don't enjoy a good candy bar.  They're human like everyone else, and combine a candy bar and brownies? Wow, heaven in a pan.
Take a look at these beauties.
Layer Kit Kats on top of brownie batter....Penny used white and dark alternately and it is prettier that way, but I'd be tempted to skip the white chocolate. There is a Kit Kat dark chocolate version out there too...
Above are the final brownies and they look amazing. I might have crumbled more Kit Kats on top, but that is just me, excess is my middle name....
So, the recipe?
- box of brownie mix
- 7 full size Kit Kat bars
- Prepare the brownie mix as instructed and spread half into a pan. Break bars in half lengthwise and create a single layer over the batter.
- Pour remaining batter over bars and then crumble remaining Kit Kats on top of batter.
- Bake at 350 for 30 minutes or until toothpick comes out clean.
