Meatloaf is an old standby in all kitchens, Amish or non. One of the most popular recipes on Amish365 over the years has been a recipe for Amish Marriage Meatloaf.
Amish cooks will often keep a good supply of ground hamburger on hand for use in patties and loaves. Simply mixing up some meat, adding some eggs, and seasonings is perfect for an easy, filling supper.
A lot of Amish recipes call for oats in their meatloaf, something Mom isn’t too fond of. Oats add a little bulk and they were often stirred into ground beef to make it stretch further. It also bulks up the meatloaf a bit, I like the addition of oats to meats, but not everyone does. In fact, you can make a veggie meatloaf largely out of oats and eggs. So how does my Mom make meatloaf? Very basic recipe. How does your own recipe compare?
