Trending Recipes & Favorite Photos: Skillet Cheeseburger Casserole, Cinnamon Cream Pie, and More!

It is time for trending recipes and here in the heart of winter, it's all about the comfort food: thick casseroles, nourishing meals, and delicious desserts! Let's see what recipes are trending this week!

    🥣 Trending Soups

Amish Chili Soup: Nothing better than a dish home hearty, homemade "chili soup", which is what most Amish Cooks refer to this as.  The Amish Cook's recipe is distinguished by the use of home-butchered sausage in place of ground beef.  Gives the chili a bit more of a flavor.  Doesn't this look delicious?  Especially with a square of homemade cornbread. 🍲 Trending Meals

Skillet Cheeseburger Casserole: A delicious, classic, Amish supper. Give this a try here!

    Amish Homemade Pizza Loaf

This dish is very typical of the type that Amish cooks like to either invent or embrace: hearty, pizza-y, and easy.  Plus it feeds a family of 6 or 8 people.  So if you’re looking for something hearty and easy, pizza loaf may be for you! This recipe comes to me from an Amish woman near Charm,Ohio.

Fifty years ago - maybe even 25 - pizza was a rarity in Amish kitchens.  But as pizza took hold in pop culture - the Pizza Hutting of America - the Amish took notice.  In addition to delicious homemade pizza, pizza has found its way into burgers, loaves, sloppy joes, and even "pizza spaghetti".  This homemade pizza loaf recipe is yet another twist on the Amish love affair with pizza!

Iron Skillet Supper: Another classic comfort dish! Click here.

Hamburger Sandwich Casserole: This Amish hamburger sandwich casserole is a classic. What it is is really a deconstructed submarine sandwich that is baked. It just checks a lot of the boxes in terms of classic Amish farmhouse style meals.

A lot of Amish homemakers will make their own homemade pizza or spaghetti sauce. They start out with a bunch of their homegrown tomatoes, press them through a special strainer, and then process the juice, add seasonings, and store it for future use.

    🎂 Amish Dessert

Amish Cinnamon Cream Pie: This is a delicious pie. Click here.

Yoder's Coffeecake: Okay, this could be dessert or breakfast. Delicious either way! If you want your home to smell like an Amish bakery, make this coffeecake!  I decided that this coffeecake would be Aster and my Friday morning Amish recipe project and it did turn out good, but I've made a few tweaks that should make it turn out great for you.   Amish recipes can be tough to edit because most of the time these are recipes that Amish cooks have been making for generations and they are not written, they are just in their head. Deacon's Mashed Potato Cake:

Deacon's Mashed Potato Cake is a classic example of the creativity and inventiveness of Amish cooking and baking. I mean, geez, leftover mashed potatoes in a cake? (I know, the Amish didn't invent this, but it's still creative). Usually leftover mashed potatoes are just re-heated and reserved or fried into patties. So the fact that they could instead find their way into a cake is intriguing.

This is a winter photo I look of the Murphin Ridge Inn, which consists of the original inn building and some new cottages. I've stayed in both and it's always been a wonderful experience! The inn is a wonder bed and breakfast in Adams County, Ohio's Amish country.
