This Amish Beef and Biscuit casserole is a classic, hearty dish that you'll find gracing Amish kitchens this time of year.  Now the secret to this is not bake the biscuits beforehand, just put them directly on top of the casserole and pop it in the oven and you'll have the ultimate comfort food classic.

    Beef and Biscuit Casserole

You can use a great Amish biscuit from Amish365, or your own biscuit recipe, or, if you really want to cut corners, just buy a tube.

The beauty of this casserole is its simplicity: biscuits, beef, chopped onion, cream cheese, some soup and salt and milk. And, voila, you have yourself an instant hearty meal. To me, biscuits make everything better. Many Amish cooks feel the same way.

Use the freshest ground beef you can find. Most Amish have access to home-sourced ground beef, and that makes all the difference. You could use a blend of ground beef and venison, or ground beef and sausage, or ground turkey and ground beef. There are a lot of Amish that use ground venison to stretch out beef supply. You can do the same with another meat of your choice

    Lean ground beef

If you like onions, like I do, use a big yellow or red onion for this casserole. Many Amish grow their own plump onions. And, yes, you can use a white onion if that is what you have. But I think yellow and red have slight better flavor that works well with this recipe.

Leave your cream cheese out of the fridge for awhile so it softens at room temperature before you use it in this recipe. It'll work more smoothly. And, yes, canned soups are popular in Amish kitchens, popular for use in recipes like Amish Beef and Biscuit Casserole.
