    Easy Peach Dump Cake

Dump cakes are popular among the Amish and why the heck not?   They are easy, delicious, and feed a crowd, so when reader Penny sent this to me recently I salivated (and wished I had my passport current, because I'd head to her house in Canada with a fork to sample this!).  Well, driving to Canada to have peach dump cake wouldn't make much sense when it is so quick and fun to make on one's own.

Okay, back to: dump cakes are popular with the Amish cooks? Now, I know what you’re thinking… Don’t most Amish cooks make cakes from scratch? Yes, many Amish homemakers make cakes from scratch. However, you also have to keep in mind that the average Amish homemaker often has a house full of children, a husband, a garden to tend, canning, sewing, paying bills, milking, helping with homework, refereeing fights with kids, cleaning, making clothing, preparing for church, paying bills, and the list goes on and on. And then you also have a hungry household all demanding dessert, it’s not uncommon for an Amish cook to “cheat “and pull a boxed cake mix off the shelf and dress it up into dessert. That’s where dump cake is just so so handy in an Amish kitchen.

And, what better to celebrate spring and summer than peach dump cake?

Delicious, easy Amish peach dump cake!

The recipe below is a classic dump.  I'm not sure about the walnuts.  I've been gradually becoming more of a nut fan as I get older (I like the crunch that it adds).  Typically, I'd leave the nuts out but, geez, I don't know, I may have finally reached a point in my life where the nuts stay in.
