    Super Easy Amish Pizza Chicken

Super Easy Amish Pizza Chicken is one of the easiest and tastiest Amish dishes that I’ve had. I mean, this is so easy and it marries two of the most popular dishes around: pizza and chicken.  Merge the two and you get pizza chicken.  I mean, the beauty of this recipe is that it only has 5 ingredients.  But the ingredients that it has go a long way.  The chicken, well, that is your base.  The pizza sauce that most Amish use will be a wonderful homemade pizza sauce with its own seasonings (so, in that sense, this recipe has more ingredients), and then you add mozzarella, oregano, and garlic salt and that’s it. This is a true meal in minutes.

There isn’t much else to say about this recipe other than it is superb.  I was going to pair it with bread (the Italian in me, has to have bread with everything), but thought that would be a pretty carb-loaded meal.   So we made some cauliflower rice to go with it.  That was good.  Well, actually, come to think of it, we did have

    🙋 FAQ

Can You Use Spaghetti Sauce Instead of Pizza Sauce in Super Easy Amish Pizza Chicken?

Well, it wouldn't be "pizza chicken" then, but if you are in a pinch and really want to try this recipe, a plain or cheesy marinara would work. A meat spaghetti sauce probably wouldn't pair well with the chicken, but plain would work.

Many Amish make their own homemade pizza sauce and you can link to some recipes below.  I mean, if you think about it, pizza is a natural addition to an Amish menu. I’ll post some recipes to homemade pizza sauces below.  Most are very basic, one even calls for catsup.

I’ve said before that the overlap between some aspects of Italian cooking and Amish food are natural:  pastas, pizza sauces, pizzas, tomato sauce, and some herbs are great overlaps.   Two ethnic foods that the Amish really are drawn to are Italian and Mexican.  But I’ve never been to an Amish home and seen the little white cardboard boxes of Chinese take-out. There’s just not as much overlap between, say, Asian cooking and Amish.

    Amish Pizza Chicken

I think the easiest way to do this recipe is to use pre-cooked, frozen cubed chicken. I mean, if you want to do a fresh chicken, cube it and cook it, absolutely, have at it. And for our vegetarian readers, you can use Morningstar Farms (or another brand, if there is one) of veggie chicken strips. This recipe works perfectly well with this.

It's fun how it begins to look like "pizza" on the chicken after you dump the pizza sauce and mozzarella cheese on top.

    Amish Pizza Chicken

I had two skillets of this going at once, one for my parents supper and one for my family's supper (I was at their house, using their kitchen to make this, so I made their supper and took a batch of pizza chicken home for us). Anyway, I didn't think it was quite enough pizza sauce for our batch so I added a half a jar of four-cheese marinara sauce to ours, which worked quite well. It did not adversely impact the flavor at all. The recipe does call for a teaspoon of flour, I'm not really sure what the purpose is of that other than to thicken it a bit. I mean, well, yeah, I am sure that is what it is for, otherwise you'd just have saucy chicken. The flour makes it just slightly "pasty", which makes the sauce and cheese adhere well to the chicken.

This is just the kind of meal I like: quick, hot, hearty. And this meal literally takes minutes to make. If you are using pre-cooked chicken, it's just a matter of heating everything thoroughly and melting the cheese, you'll be done in 10 minutes.
