Mennonite recipe for Barbecue Burger
BARBECUED HAMBURGER: Barbecued hamburger is a mainstay on menus in Plain kitchens.  It is a fun, flavorful twist on traditional hamburger and Patricia's Patchwork does a super job of recreating a Mennonite version of it!  Take a look at her recipe and post here. The recipe is essentially a homemade Manwich (do they still sell that stuff in a can?) or sloppy joe, but better!
BRUCE STAMBAUGH: Â This week we check in with one of my favorite bloggers who resides in the beautiful hills of Holmes County, Ohio. Â He posts an essay this week about his encounter with an Amish man and how they both sort of found common ground in respecting each other's differences. It's a thought-provoking piece with some great photos and also some insights into the Amish wood products business in Holmes County. Check it all out here!
GOING NORTH: Â The exodus of the last remaining Amish snowbirds continues out of Pinecraft. Â The place is probably generally deserted by now. Â I saw a Pioneer Trails bus near Fort Wayne last week, probably ferrying a final load back up to northern Indiana. Â Pinecraft, for the most part, falls silent in the spring and summer. Â Katie Troyer posts some superb photos of one of these "exits" occurring recently in Pinecraft. Click here to read.
SOURDOUGH CORNBREAD: Â I love this blog written by a Plain conservative Mennonite in Pennsylvania. Â She's not a horse-and-buggy Mennonite, but she is Plain and I think her perspective gives great insight into Plainness that can also encompass living with technology (she also has a blog, after all). Â She shares recipes, gardening tips, baking advice, etc, just a great, wholesome homey blog from a Plain perspective! Click here for a recipe for homemade sourdough cornbread. Yum!
HOMEMADE BLUEBERRY CREAM CHEESE FRENCH TOAST: And check out recipe for this amazing-sounding breakfast slice of Heaven! Click here.
AMISH CHICKEN SCHNITZEL: Â And from our friendly neighborhood "Joe's Butcher Shop" (well, he's not in my neighborhood, but if you are in Central Indiana, he's in yours!), check out this recipe!
